CR400BF-C动车组是在CR400BF基础上,为京张高速铁路及2022年冬奥会设计的新一代8辆编组的耐高寒抗风沙的高速动车组,采用全新的外观型设计,智能化自动驾驶。CR400BF-C-5162专为冬奥打造,与既有的5144、5145相比,重新设计客舱布局,采用全新商务座、一等座的设计,大幅提升舒适度。在冬奥会期间,08车二等座区域改造为直播间,支持5G视频直播。

2020年09月15日,首组增加独立的司机室门的CR400BF-C头车亮相。

2020年11月12日,CR400BF-C-5162抵京并参与京雄城际铁路河北段联调联试,该车增加了独立的司机室门,便于司机乘降,也提高了商务座乘客的私密性。

2021年01月19日,CR400BF-C-5162正式换装冬奥涂装并亮相。

2022年01月06日,CR400BF-C-5162投入运营,开行北京北/清河至冬奥会太子城、崇礼赛区的车次。

2022年04月起,CR400BF-C-5162投入北京-呼和浩特间常规车次运营,车次通常为G2457/G2462/G2467/G2472/G7881/G7882,但每隔一段时间会停用检修,这些车次使用其他列车运营。
