为解决时速250 km/h的动车组在时速200 km/h的线路上运行造成的浪费，也避免城际版本的CRH6A座椅角度不可调且卫生间较少，运行长距离的车次造成乘客不适，因此广州局集团定制了一批带有一等座和餐车的CRH6A，其中01车一等座第5-12排可以旋转方向，其余座位不可以旋转方向，同时该车仍保留了大量站立空间，保证能够承载较大客流。

2018年03月，广深铁路公司招标6组带有高等级级的坐席的CRH6A动车组，用于广深铁路。

2018年09月02日，广深铁路公司6组正式交付，由中车青岛四方机车车辆股份有限公司制造（4132-4137）

2018年11月，深茂铁路公司招标8组带有高等级级的坐席的CRH6A动车组。

2019年12月26日，首列正式交付，由中车广东轨道交通车辆有限公司制造（4502-4509）。

运营范围及车次

其中投入运营的列车中，4132-4137为中车四方生产，最初主要运行广深线，后配属佛山城际所，主要运营江湛线，2024年01月重新回到广深线运行；4502-4509为中车广东生产，最初主要运行江湛线，2024年01月4502-4505在广深线运行，4506-4509在江湛线运行。
