CR400AF-J是基于CR400AF系列研发的高速综合检测列车，同时也是下一代CR450系列动车组的试验列车，为CR450的研制积累宝贵数据。

2022年09月22日，CR400AF-J-0002启程前往铁道科学院进行试验。

2023年06月11日，CR400AF-J-0002启程前往福厦高铁进行试验。

2023年06月28日在湄洲湾跨海大桥，试验列车以单列时速453公里、相对交会时速891公里运行，06月29日在海尾隧道，试验列车以单列时速420公里、相对交会时速840公里运行，对新技术部件进行了有效的性能验证，各项指标表现良好，标志着CR450动车组研制取得阶段性成果，为“CR450科技创新工程”的顺利实施打下了坚实基础。

在本次试验中，中车四方股份公司在新研制的CR400AF-J综合检测列车上，搭载CR450轻量化转向架、牵引高压、制动、减阻降噪等4大类12项新技术部件开展试验。6月28日，在湄洲湾跨海大桥，试验列车相对交会时速达到891公里，其中CR400AF担当01车，最高运行速度达到453km/h
